My Story
Hi, I'm Paul. I've been involved in residential remodeling and new construction for over 40 years. I started in my teens working summers performing basic labor work for my family's home remodeling business, digging ditches and carrying material. After obtaining my first college degree (in History) I decided to continue working in construction, and went to work full time in the family business. Over the next 15 years I honed my skills in all aspects of residential remodeling, from concrete and masonry work to rough framing room additions to roofing and gutters and all the interior finish work in between.
When I was in my thirties, I returned to college part time while continuing to work to support my wife and three children. After obtaining my degree in Civil Engineering, I went to work as a Project Manager for a Chicago based development company managing multi-million dollar high-rise condominium projects as well as renovation and residential conversion of historic structures.
In 2009, as residential construction slowed down in Chicago due to the economic downturn, I found opportunities to work outside the US and spent the next seven years managing large projects in Abu Dhabi and Doha, Qatar, including a 5 star high rise hotel, a mega-development of 6,000 residential units, and the construction of FIFA World Cup stadium. I returned to Chicago in 2015 to work for my former employer, and continued to manage high-rise new construction, historic renovation, and affordable apartment rehab (see completed projects page in this website).
During my years working as an Owner's Representative / Project Manager, I kept my hands on my tools while performing renovations and improvements on my own properties, including extensive renovations on three 100+ year old homes, as well as several rental units. When I retired from my position with the development company in 2025, I decided to continue doing what I enjoy - performing home improvements with tools in my hands. My ambition is not to grow into a large remodeling business, but to focus on smaller projects and to-do lists that may not attract the attention of larger firms. After 40+ years of new construction and remodeling experience and a lifetime of dedication to quality work, I am happy to have the opportunity to return to my roots and continue working with my hands on your home small projects.
